东汉建安十三年，曹操率兵南犯东吴，在长江跟东吴水师对峙。《三国演义》第四十七回谈到当时曹军的一个弱点:大江之中，潮生潮落，风浪不息。北兵不惯乘舟，受此颠播，便生疾病。英国人会说:The northerners had not yet found their sea legs。

Find one's sea legs的意思是呢?按英国人的腿颇为奇怪，好像随时可以更换，比如溜冰者有溜冰用的腿，大家只须find/get their ice legs，等于了解溜冰了。在船上，大家则要find/get their sea legs，由于这意味着不怕晕船、可以在颠簸的船上如常走动，比如:
After several days on board, I found my sea legs and no longer felt seasick^{1.
(我在船上过了几天，就习惯了颠簸，再也不怕晕船了。）}
